Does anyone here have ever used LKW tyres instead off PKW for driving offroad?
I have a whole net set, and i'm wonderering if it's smart to use them for driving offroad.

What do you mean with LKW tires? In principle if the load class is OK and it's a radial tire, it should be possible, maybe not the smartest decision, but possible. Special offroad tires come with reinforced flanges. I don't think that LKW or PKW tires will have them.

Hi,
depends what you mean by driving offroad.
I have experience driving Michelin XZY on a LR 110, while traveling in South America . The XZY is a at least 20 year old design of a tyre for mixed use on-/offroad, mainly for construction- site trucks. Back in the eighties I had driven them - in a considerable bigger size but more or less the same tire- on a Hanomag truck in Africa.
It may not give you a high-profile performance in mid-european places, where you have to pay for destroying material in front of a lot of people by driving through mud pools and by climbing and descending steeeep hills - let's say you will get bogged sooner as a vehicle equipped with MT - tyres.
In sandy conditions with low tirepressure it's also not the best of all choices, because of it's stable and sturdy construction it does not really "walk".
But they will last verrry long - in terms of durabilty and I haven't had a puncture since I bought them in South America -5 and half years ,80tkm ago - at 200 $ each.
They are definitly no bargain and it's very hard to get them in "small sizes" in Europe -that means not for real trucks- maybe Toyota Gibraltar, where NGO's vehicles are equipped is a possibility- they still have them on their website ?
It's still my first choice for driving long hauls on unpaved, rocky tracks, although I have to change tyres each time I have to go to the beloved "TÜV". The speed index ist not suitable for my car in Germany...
And at least a picture for all MT- lovers- guess what tire is hiding under all the mess(no -this is not my car...)

With a truck - tyre you may have got bogged 1 and half mile down the road...

The tyres i'm talking about are the 235/75 R17,5 Inch of Okon.
They are like these at Ebay
We are going to travel to the auvergne, mid France. (muddy and rocky envoirement)
Do you think that with this kind of profile it will be get bogged soon?

Maybe i just have to try them out first, under some muddy conditions..

in the dimensions 235/85/16.....
good luck

What about the speed index? It's the problem I wrote about in my last posting. In germany it's not legal to drive tyres with a speed index L on a vehicle with a speed index let's say N in it's registration documents. In case of an M+S label you are allowed to use tyres rated one class lower but those tyres haven't got one.
Even when you do not drive faster then 120 km/h, you will get a lot of hassle with the authorities, insurances and so on,in traffic controls or in case of an accident etc. etc..
I have no clue what the tyre speed index on your car is, but I persume it's higher then L and I do not know how this stuff is handled in the Netherlands?
Beside this, if you get them balanced on your rims, give it a try and report...
