For the Geek-people of the world.... here's the detail on Cuthbert's leisure battery AGM to lithium LiFePO4 up-grade 🤓💡🛠💥

When designing the technical part of my cabin I have also opted for LiFePo battery. The gravymetric weight saving based on the useable energy level is impressive compared to Lead-Acid.

It is am Mastervolt with 110Ah.

Charge controll is being done by a Votronic Tripple wich combines a PV MPP tracker, supplied by two thin film pannels with 200 Wp, alternator charge booster and grid charger.

Since everything is still in the build-up phase I do have very little experience...

I have encountered one mildly annoying draw back of the LiFePo battery: Is seems to have a build in electric fuse. Trying to run my 2 cylinder 600 W 12V - the initial start up current might be well over the rated 50amps - compressor on it,always triggered the fuse... I finally had to draw a 10 or 16? mm2 cable to the starter bat. Grrrreat!

Cheers Volker

I did look at a few battery options. There are several that contain the BMS and all the circuit protection within a sealed unit. This has the advantage of being able to be swapped directly into the place of a lead acid battery and not require any external wiring or protection. However, I quite like to mess about with things in detail and am quite happy with electronics. I also like the Victron products I already have. Therefore, I went for the Victron batteries and added the extra circuitry required. The maximum recommend discharge rates of my batteries is 90 amps continuous (270 amps is the maximum continuous) and 900 amps for a 10 seconds pulse. As I have 3 batteries paralleled that allows 270 amps continues and 2700 amps for 10 seconds!!! I have fitted 100 amp fuses to each battery as I can’t really see me needing more than 300 amps, even when winching.
